Planning holidays, childcare or a long weekend away? Here are the UK bank holidays for 2027 for each nation. Dates for England and Wales are the same; Scotland and Northern Ireland have some extra (and some different) days.

Bank holiday dates are set by the government and can occasionally change — for example, for a royal occasion — so always double-check on GOV.UK before booking anything non-refundable.

Why are Christmas bank holidays on 27 and 28 December in 2027?
In 2027, Christmas Day falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day on a Sunday. When a bank holiday lands on a weekend, a substitute day is usually given on the next working day — so the days off move to Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December.
How to make the most of your annual leave in 2027
- Easter: book 22–25 March and 30 March–2 April to turn 8 days of leave into 16 days off (England, Wales and Northern Ireland).
- May: with two Monday bank holidays, taking the four days after each one gives you two nine-day breaks for 8 days of leave.
- Christmas: book 29–31 December to get a break from Christmas Day to Sunday 2 January 2028 — with just 3 days of leave.
Leave rules vary by employer, so check your contract and how your company handles bank holidays for part-time staff.
