Happy Easter Messages: Wishes for Cards, Texts and Family

Happy Easter messages for family, friends and colleagues — short texts, religious Easter blessings, cheerful wishes for children and what to write in an Easter card.

Easter in the UK is a lovely mix of the meaningful and the fun: church services and hot cross buns, spring flowers and chocolate eggs, a four-day weekend and an egg hunt in the garden. Whether you're sending a card to Grandma, a text to friends or a few words to colleagues before the bank holiday, here are Happy Easter messages for every occasion.

Easter messages for colleagues

Wishing you and your family a happy and peaceful Easter.

What to write in an Easter card

Easter cards don't need to be long. A simple formula works well: a greeting, a personal line and a warm sign-off.

  1. Greeting: "Happy Easter, Aunt Sue!"
  2. Personal line: "I hope the garden is looking lovely — we can't wait to see it in the summer."
  3. Wish: "Wishing you a peaceful, sunny weekend."
  4. Sign-off: "With love from all of us."

If you're giving chocolate or a small gift, a short message on the tag is enough: "A little treat for a lovely friend. Happy Easter!"

Easter traditions in the UK

Easter falls on a different date each year because it follows the lunar calendar — it is the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the spring equinox. In 2027, Easter Sunday is on 28 March, with Good Friday on 26 March and Easter Monday on 29 March.

Good Friday and Easter Monday are bank holidays in England, Wales and Northern Ireland; in Scotland, Good Friday is a bank holiday but Easter Monday is not. Traditions include hot cross buns on Good Friday, Easter egg hunts in gardens and parks, Easter bonnet parades at primary schools, simnel cake with its eleven marzipan balls, and a family roast — often lamb — on Easter Sunday. Many people also attend a church service on Easter morning.
